Wanted to let you all know, that the cvars for Rate and Maxpackets have been now limited. Finally we have decieded to stop the rate/maxpackets cvar abusers from exploiting the lack of limitations (the minimum allowed value), rendering them to be less "unhittable" and making it a more "fair" game for everyone.

If you experience any WARNINGS and/or kicks, just read the console, you have to have your Rate value set between 25000 - 50000 and your maxpackets between 40 - 100 now.

you can do that by typing the following into the console

===========
/rate [value]
===========

Example:

/rate 25000

then you have to reconnect, to put it into effect...

========================
/seta com_maxpackets [value]
========================

Example:

/seta com_maxpackets 100

these take place instantly, no reconnect/restart necessary.

Cheers :)Y

edit - and do a /writeconfig autoexec.cfg to perm save to your cfg ;) - topic moved here so it could be seen :P

A question. That difference between having the maxrate 25000 or 50000? Improvement something the connection? Even not well well that makes the maxrate, thank you. By the rest i think it is limited, i have seen people with 5000 rate and 30 maxpackets..timenudge are limited to 0?

Saludos =x

If you have seen people with Rate 5000 and maxpackets 30, they weren't on the server for long. PB gives you a *WARNING* msg asking you to change the Rate and Maxpackets to a value between the boundaries (25000 - 50000) and (40 - 100), if not you get kicked.

So yes, people with values outside those ranges can infact connect, but if they don't change their settings in time they get kicked automatically by PB.

a lot of people are getting kicked from dc/too for this. seeing as 30 is the default value for this cvar, would it be possible to implement an auto adjust of offending values like on hirntot? perhaps some people do not know how to adjust cvars (especially newer players) and not everyone bothers coming here for a solution.

dc/too is emptier than before and i'm guessing this might be contributing.

I agree, implementing a forced cvar setting, serverside would be a solution. Although i have to add that the server beeing empty most of the time lately is due to numerous factors in my opinion. The number of people getting kicked for 30 maxpackets is far less then it used to be at the beginning when we first implemented the 60-100 maxpacket range limit.

It is not helping the numbers, that's for sure, but i wouldn't say it's the main reason for less and less players playing on our server, ET in general to be honest.

+1 on the solution though.

hummm i think we could try the 60 limit now, ppl now are aware of this, and this makes less of the cvar abuse.
