How to get authed?
Quakenet has a bot called 'Q' wich handles all auth's made on Quakenet.
To get authed you'll need to create a login with Q.
Each time you connect to Quakenet, you'll have to AUTH.
Creating a account:
To create a account type:
/msg Q HELLO <email> <email>
and replace <email> with a VALID e-mail addy you have.
You'll recieve a mail from Q soon (could be delayed when Q has trouble).
After you got the e-mail you'll see instructions how to get your username + password.
Authing:
WARNING: NEVER COPY PASTE YOUR AUTH IN A CHANNEL, DO IT IN STATUS WINDOWS!!
After you got your username and password, you can auth with:
/msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org AUTH <username> <password>
and replace <username> with your username, and <password> with your password.
Changing password:
Now it's recommend you change your password to something you can remember.
To change your password type:
/msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org NEWPASS <old> <new> <new>
Now replace <old> with your current password, and <new> with the new password you would like to have.
Hiding your IP:
After you are authed you also can choose to 'hide' your hostmask (so people can't see your IP).
To do this type:
/mode <your> +x
Replace <your> with your current nick you are using on IRC.. for example Kennie.
Automatic authing:
Each time you (re)connect to Quakenet, you'll have to auth again.
In most clients you can let the client do this automatic, here is a sample for mIRC.
- Open up options by pressing ALT + O.
- Click on connect, so the 'tree' opens and more options are avaible.
- Go to 'Options'.
- Press now the button 'Perform...'
- Tick now, 'Enable perform on connect'
- Select Quakenet as network if it's select yet (click Add near Network)
- Add in the textbox 'Perform commands:' the following content:
/msg Q@CServe.quakenet.org AUTH <username> <password>
Replace <username> and <password> again with your username and password from your Q account.
You can also let it automatic hide your hostmask.. add this line after the AUTH line in perform:
//mode $me +x
Now you should get authed each time you connect
.
Good luck and have fun on IRC
